The Passing of our Brother and 30th Grand Polemarch

PHILADEPHIA, PA Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., announces the passing of the 30 Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi and 75 Laurel Wreath Laureate, Samuel C. Hamilton, on Wednesday,

June 15, 2023.

Hamilton, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, matriculated at Clark College (now Clark-Atlanta University), earning a B.A. degree in 1965. He also continued his education, taking executive-level training and enrichment courses at the University of Connecticut, the University of Massachusetts, and Indiana University-Blooming ton.

Vocationally, he previously worked as a regional director at the Hartford-based Aetna Life and Casualty Company. Hamilton subsequently became the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Hartford Economic Development Corporation (HEDCO), a nonprofit organization aiming to stimulate economic development in the Hartford metropolitan area.

Hamilton significantly contributed to volunteer organizations, including the Hartford Neighborhood Development Support Collaborative, the Child and Family Services and TLC, the Center for Sports Parenting, and the United Way. He was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Hartford. Hamilton also obtained membership as a 33-degree Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Clark-Atlanta University Athletic Hall of Fame.

He was a 1963 initiate of the Clark College Chapter, the Gamma Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi (SE). In addition to being elected to lead the Fraternity at the highest level as Grand Polemarch, he faithfully served for 60 years in various leadership positions, including as Gamma Kappa Chapter Polemarch, Hartford (CT) Alumni Polemarch, Northeastern Province Senior Province Vice Polemarch, Northeastern Province Polemarch, as well as Grand Keeper of Records and Exchequer.

The Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton, III, Esq. has called for an observance of 60 days of official mourning in adherence to our protocol standards. The Fraternity conveys our deepest sympathy to the Hamilton family and requests that all keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this hour of bereavement.
